Great commentary, Henry. It doesn't take a mental giant to figure out how to handle fire. Don't allow fuel buildup such as brush, and if things do burn be sure to have enough water and people to put the flames out. That's caveman talk.

Every single time for every catastrophe we react retroactively. People in government jobs just coast along and hope someone else is doing something. We need to flush one big toilet filled with the stupids.

Oh yes, I forgot the term "pass the buck." Governments operate on the committee system where nobody takes responsibility for anything. They just talk about it. In engineering, often not-so-well-going projects turn into a committee looking for solutions ... they usually don't work. You need to fine someone with ownership of a project to be responsible for it. It's interesting to note there's an LA City Fire Department, a County Fire Department and a California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection. Now there's a finger-pointing group which nobody ends up getting blamed for anything.

Henry, we need you to run for public office!

Don't scare me. :) The only running I'll be doing is running the other way.
