Keep our Rights
They were given for a reason
Tom and Kathryn, after leaving the movie theater, decided to take a short stroll before going to their car. Deep in conversation they had not been paying attention and found themselves walking down an empty dark street. As they turned around to make their way back, three shadows appeared behind them on the sidewalk. All three were brandishing big knives.
Tom very calmly and quietly said over his shoulder to his wife, “Get down behind that trash can and stay there until I tell you to get up.”
Tom slowly removed his coat and wrapped it around his right arm. In that instant instead of stepping back in fear, Tom, a white-haired, seventy-year-old former store clerk, lunged himself at the closest attacker. He used his protected arm to shove the hooded punk while simultaneously hooking his right foot behind the attacker’s left ankle. The assailant fell backwards losing his grip on the knife. Tom slammed his foot on the man’s head. Stunning him. He placed all his 200 pounds on the attacker’s neck.
The unexpected move caught the other two muggers briefly off guard but were now tentatively coming toward Tom. As though by magic, Tom had a gun pointed at them.
“Just so you know. I’m really good with this thing. Had I wanted to you both dead you would be kissing that sidewalk right now. And you may still die if you don’t drop those knives and step back.
The attacker Tom had pinned on the ground tried to struggle. Tom harshly shoved his head back into the sidewalk knocking him a little loopy.
“I have every right to shoot you. But I’m not. And you know why? Because you’re kids. Your life is tough, and you’ve run out of choices to survive. Or have you? Have you chosen to become common criminals for drugs or just the money to buy fancy tennis shoes or cell phones? Whatever the reason, you don’t have to live like this. You do have choices. You can get cleaned up. Focus on your education. Get a job and see what it feels like to earn an honest dollar. Contribute to society instead of stealing from it. I know deep down; you are good kids. I’m not going to shoot you today. I can only hope you heed my words and change course. If you continue on this path, you’re going to die young anyway. Now get out of here.”
Tom glanced down at their friend. “This one I’m going to keep. Someone has to pay a little something. Though these days he’ll probably be out tomorrow so you guys can try to rob someone else. Just remember this, don’t judge a book by its cover. The two looked to each other out from their shadowed faces and sprinted off. “You’ll figure it out.” Tom shouted after them.
“Kathryn, please call 911. You can also get up now. Just stay back until the police get here.”
His wife was wide eyed and shaking. She stared at her husband in a completely different way. With a quivering voice she said, “Who are you? That was awesome!”
The above is of course a fiction story. It popped in my head one night before falling asleep. It’s probably one of the reasons I have a hard time falling asleep.
My imaginary attackers in the real world would likely have guns and chances are Tom wouldn’t have emerged as a hero. Then again that may not be entirely true either. If you go through training courses designed for the above scenario, become proficient in handling firearms and learn how to handle yourself under duress, you could likely take down, or at the very least scare off three attackers.
Like abortion, there’s very little wiggle room in the middle when it comes to guns. Democrats use it as a political tool. Most of them probably own their fair share of guns. Even Kamala who likely got heat for trying to show she’s cool with guns stated she’d shoot anyone with her Glock who came into her house. One of the houses she said a few years back she would send law enforcement in to take them away.
We’re never, ever going to collect all the guns. As we all know it’s not the guns anyway, it’s the people who use them. They generally fall into two categories, they’re either mentally sick or just bad people. The toughest guns laws enacted for some reason can’t even stop people who entered our country illegally from getting their hands on them. Riddle me that. And how come the democrats and media never speak to that realty. Illegals are killing Americans with guns they didn’t have when they crossed into America.
Go after the criminals! And when you get them, lock them up. And keep them locked up. If our government can spend a billion dollars cradling illegals, they can certainly spend a few bucks keeping our prisons open and prevent further harm against innocent people.
Criminals will continue to figure out how to commit their crimes even if they thought everyone carried a gun. Though it could give them just enough pause to not judge a book by its cover.
I know guns are not a high priority for many people regarding the coming election. Eating and paying bills are what matter. And maybe like the kids in my story, they needed some of their stolen profits so they could eat. However, it is still an important right we cannot afford to lose. And Kamala promised she would steal them from law abiding citizens.
One thing for sure, as Charlton Heston (big time actor for those young ins) said, “You can have my gun when you pry it from my cold, dead fingers.”
